Downloading II

Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE5.0)
Note:  if you use Netscape, I will be building IBT Browser Pages for you soon.

Adobe Acrobat Reader Download page one "fill in the blanks"

Note:  In step 1, they want you to choose 3 things.  Language (English is the default), Platform (your operating system...for many of us, it will be Win98 as I have selected above.)  Finally, Location nearest you. (Again, for many of us, it will be USA.)  In order to change any one of these, simply click on the "drop-down list arrow immediately to the right of the text box for the item that you want to change.  In case you forgot, the "drop-down list arrow" looks like this:  Drop-down list arrow  Note, under the Location nearest you text box, there is a check-box that says:  Include option for searching PDF files (longer download)  If this is something that you thing you might use, then left click the check-box.  I don't use it and don't have it but you may find it useful for searching for key words in especially long text documents.  Come to think of it, I could use that feature and will check that box when I download the newest version of AAR.

Adobe Acrobat Reader Download page one "fill in the blanks"

Note:  In step 2, they want you to type in two things:  Name (or user name if you choose as I did) and E-mail address.  Now why do you suppose they want that info?  Well, you may choose to receive info from them about software and offers.  Notice the two check-boxes immediately below your e-mail address?  Well, by default, they are checked and if you do not uncheck them (point at one at a time and left click once), you are in fact asking them to e-mail you "stuff" as well as asking others (whoever they may be) to send you special offers.  So, if you DO NOT want to get that stuff from who knows....just unselect or deselect those two items as I have above.

Step 3 says....Now download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader...etc.  Finally, it's time to start the download process....note the bright red button on the bottom right?  It's the download button of course.  So, just left click it and let's start the download process.

Ready?  I'm clicking the download button now....

Here's what you will see:

File download window over Adobe Acrobat Reader web page

Notice that a new web page came up first and then a new window (File Download) "popped up" on top of the browser window...after you clicked download.  The new web page says (on the very top) You are now downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader and the File Download window has a question on it that you must answer..."What would you like to do with this file?" You can choose to Run the program from it's current location or Save this program to disk.  I always save the program to disk...actually to a folder...a download folder which I have on my hard "C" drive.  Whenever I download anything, it is saved to my download folder, then scanned for virus, then, finally, I open/run the exe file.  Just my habits and way of doing things I guess.  I would suggest that you Save the program to disk too...but it's your choice.

Now please focus on the File Download window above. Note the file name is ar405eng.exe (acrobat reader version 4.05 in english and it's an executable file)

But, before we go on, let's go to the next download page and continue our discussion.  Please click here or click on Downloading III below.
