E-mail IV
(from a home computer user's standpoint)
Microsoft Internet Explorer
(MSIE5.0)
Note: if you use Netscape, I will
be building IBT Browser Pages for you soon.
Let's compose a message to me at my Hotmail account. Note...my computer puts in my From address: coach@cybrzn.com (Cyberzone).
I typed in my To address: wizard_i@hotmail.com
I typed in my Subject: Internet Beginners Tutorial (IBT) compose/send an e-mail.
And...I typed in the e-mail message in the large message text box area. The last step is to left click on the Send button on the standard tool bar and...the message is sent...zooming thru cyberspace...to my Hotmail account...somewhere on the internet. Should we go to my Hotmail account (internet e-mail account) and see if the message arrived? Ok...let's do it....
Here we are on my Hotmail e-mail account...Internet e-mail remember. Note...that to access my Hotmail account, I must be on the internet...Hotmail actually resides as a web page, on the World Wide Web. It's an advantage actually, especially if you travel and want to check your e-mail account from some remote, long-distance location. No long distance phone calls to my local ISP to check my e-mail. That's why lots of people have Internet e-mail accounts...plus, they are free! :-)
While we're waiting for my e-mail to arrive at Hotmail (sometimes takes seconds, sometimes minutes), let's take a short break and then we'll take a look at Hotmail.
Ok...break's over...back to work!
Here's what my Hotmail E-mail program (on the Internet) looks like:
I'd like you to note several things about my Hotmail e-mail account.
1. To get to Hotmail, I had to go to their website. It's at: http://www.hotmail.com
2. To get into my Hotmail E-mail Account, I had to enter my username - wizard_i and my password - *****
3. Once I am in my Hotmail E-mail Account, this is what I will see...the Inbox plus a lot of superfluous stuff...stuff that you don't need...or want...necessarily...advertising stuff and links to other MS web pages...just ignore all of the stuff for now and try to find the actual message that I sent...it's buried in the middle...see it? There is a red right-facing arrow head, then a small square white check box, then under From, the username of the person sending the e-mail (me...coach), then the date the e-mail was received, the subject (IBT) and the Size of the e-mail (2k...which is very small)
4. To access the e-mail, all I have to do it point at "coach" and left click it.
For now, however, we are going to leave Hotmail and go back to MS Outlook Express because I don't want to get off track from what we are doing...namely...getting comfortable with E-mail using MS Outlook Express. So, let's go to the next page, and get back to Outlook and take a look at what we need to do to send an attachment with an e-mail message.

Go ahead...try it! I'd be glad to hear from you and will make every attempt to address your ideas, suggestions, other...with a IBT web page!
