The Mouse

The Two Button Mouse (Standard)        or...        The Three Button Mouse      or....        The Two Button Mouse and Trackball

Two button or...   Three button  or...  Two button and middle trackball

Left click, double left click, right click, middle click....How am I supposed to know which button to click and when?

Well, first of all, it depends on what kind of a mouse you have.  Many MICE only two buttons and some have three.

1.  Left click (once) on a "link" on a web page to go to the next page. Remember that a link can be underlined text, non-underlined text, or an image.  You will know it's a link when you point your mouse pointer at it because your mouse pointer will change to a little hand with a little finger sticking out... Hand (Link here...) (actually, it's the index finger on the right hand and it's trying to tell you to left click once with your index finger to go to the link

2.  Double left click on a shortcut on your desktop to open a program.  For example, if you have a shortcut on your desktop for MS Internet Explorer browser or Netscape browser, just place the mouse pointer on the shortcut, hold the mouse tight, and double left click...(two clicks...as fast as you can tap them out.)

Or to open a folder (maybe you created a Temporary Folder to save your downloads or your other "work."

Or to start an ".exe" file.  Make sure the mouse does not move when you double left click or the computer will get confused.

3.  Right click once on most things and the computer will show you a menu. Actually, when you right click, you are giving the computer a command to "show me a menu."  And...of course, the computer obeys!

4.  If you have a Three-button or a Two-button and Trackball Mouse, Middle click once to set the web page scroller function (the purpose of the middle button or trackball.)  Then, move the mouse up or down and the page will scroll wherever you want it to go....top to bottom...without clicking or dragging the scroll buttons or slide bar on the right side of your browser screen.  This works great on L O N G web pages.  (Guess that's why they invented it???)

Note:  If you don't have a Three button or Two Button and Trackball mouse, you can buy one and "install" it.   (It comes with some software and installs quite easily.)
