Searching For URLs

Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE)
Note:  if you use Netscape, I will be building IBT Browser Pages for you soon.

Searching for URLs is relatively easy now days, with the growth of the Internet and browser enhancements.  The easiest way to search for a particular web site is to use the Address "Text Box" as we just did in our last Browser lesson.  Only this time, just type the word go, followed by a space (hit the space bar on the keyboard once), followed by the name or keyword of whatever you want to find.  So, to recap, point your mouse pointer in the Address "Text Box.", then left click once and the text will "turn blue", then type "go nwtc.

Address Text Box - I typed go (space) nwtc

I typed: "go (space) nwtc.  Next, hit the enter key on the keyboard (the enter key is a command key that says to the computer..."take me to this web site or a search engine."

Here's what I see on my browser (MSIE)

Here's the result of my typing go (space) nwtc and hitting enter on the keyboard

Notice this browser search uses what's called Microsoft Explorer Autosearch by using Yahoo (one of the most popular search engines on the internet.)

Note also the results that the Search produced?   Two results actually.

The Browser search above tells you several things.

1. The name of the web page it found based on the word/words that you typed in.

2. A description of the web page

3.  The actual URL of the web pages found.

4.  Note also that both the Web Page Name and Web Page URL are a different color (light blue) and are underlined.  Those two things mean that they are links.  All we have to do to go to the site that we choose is to point our mouse pointer to the desired link (note the mouse pointer changes to a Mouse Pointer - Hand - Hey...there's a link here...  So, just left click on the link and the browser will take you to NWTC's web page.
