Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE5.0)
Note:  if you use Netscape, I will be building IBT Browser Pages for you soon

Notice several things about this new window...the dialog box as it's called.  It's called a dialog box since it's a place where you and the computer can "talk" to each other.  The computer gives you information,  and sometimes, we give the computer information...we "talk" to each other, carry on a dialog.  Anyhow,  it has a new name and it has a "piece of white paper...a file...flying from the globe to the file folder.  Neat huh?  Notice also that the name of the new window has changes to:  2.32 MB of ar405e4ng.exe Copied (this changes all of the time as more of the file is downloaded...).  Also, it tells you that it's Saving ar405eng.exe from ftp.adobe.com and also shows you stuff like Estimated time left, Download to, transfer rate etc.

Downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader

Once the file is completely downloaded, the Copied window (Dialog Box - gray above) will disappear. Speaking of that, while the file is downloading, you can do other things such as look around Adobe's web page, or go to other web pages...because, using a 56K modem, it took me about 30 minutes to download the 5.4mb file. Anyhow, if you click on the Adobe web page (in the background above), you will notice that the Copied window disappears!  No problem...it's not gone...it's just hiding behind the Adobe web page.  Look on your task bar (bottom gray bar on your monitor) and you'll see a small gray button that says "File Download 23% complete" for example.  So...don't worry it the Copied window disappears...it's just not visible as soon as you click on anything else on your screen.

I guess before we move on to bigger and better things, we should focus, for a minute, on the Copied window.

The Dialog Box title (blue line on top of the window), as I mentioned, changes as the download continues...mine says 2.32 MB of ar405eng.exe Copied.  Next, it shows the paper flying from the globe to the folder.  Then, it says Saving: ar405eng.exe from ftp.adobe.com.  The gray bar below that sometimes shows little blue dashes to visually show the progress of the download.  Below that is Estimated time left:  Mine says Not known (Opened so far 2.32 MB).  Next, it says Download to:  C:\download\ar405eng.exe. This is the PATH of the download into my download folder on my hard "C" drive on my computer.  Next is the Transfer rate:  3.28 KB/Sec.  This will vary widely depending on the speed of your modem, the amount of traffic on adobe's ftp site, your telephone lines, etc.  So...if yours doesn't show 3.28 KB/Sec...don't worry...Finally, there is a check box with a check mark in it.  By default, this will be checked and it just says that when the file download is complete, the computer will close the dialog box.

Ok...believe it or not, we are almost finished.  Once the download is complete (the Copied Dialog Box will disappear), we can go on to the final step...Installing the Program - Adobe Acrobat Reader!

Let's go to the next download page and continue our discussion.  Please click here or click on Downloading V below.
