E-mail VI
(from a home computer user's standpoint)

Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE5.0)
Note:  if you use Netscape, I will be building IBT Browser Pages for you soon.

Next, I'm going to left click on the "C" drive...ready?  The computer shows some of the files on my "C" drive because I'm telling it to Look in the "C" drive.  I've made up a file called apictureortwo...see it?  I'll just point to it and then double left click it to open it...ok?  Here I go...

Here's what I see...now that I have opened the folder apictureortwo: Believe it or not...we are almost finished...we are now in the folder where I have stored the picture that I want to send as an attachment to my e-mail message.  A few thought may be in order.

1. It's up to you how/where you save (store) your pictures.  You can save them anywhere you like.  Some people save them in My Documents (a folder on the "C" drive), some make up individual folders for types of pictures e.g. familyphotos, dogphotos, sceneryphotos...well...I think you get the idea.  It's really up to YOU...how/where you store your pictures.  But, even more important that where...is for you to remember WHERE you stored/saved them.  Because, when you want to see them or send them as an attachment on an e-mail...obviously...you must be able to tell the computer WHERE to Look in....for them....make sense?  Good...

Guess what?  Yes...we are not at the FINAL step for attaching a picture to our e-mail.  Remember, that's what we started to do about two pages ago? :-)

All we have to do now is select the picture that we want to attach (since I only have one picture in this folder...for demonstration purposes only), the computer "assumes" that this it the picture that you want to attach so it has selected it for you.  If you have more that one picture in the folder, simply point to and left click the desired picture and then...the LAST STEP....left click on the Attach button on the lower right side of the Insert Attachment window.  Now, let's see what happened when we left clicked on Attach...ready?

Here's what we see...now that we are back (finally) on our MS Outlook Express compose window.  See it?  In the Attach text box area...in the middle of the IBT window?...left side...just below subject?  It's our picture...attached to our e-mail.  All that we have to do now is to click the Send button and the e-mail message, along with the picture, will wing their way thru cyberspace and somehow, magically, end up in my Hotmail E-mail box.  Let's send the message and the attachment....here we go...guess it's a good time for a break....

Ok...break's over...again!  Let's take a look at my Hotmail E-mail account...FYI...it took approximately 5 minutes from the time I hit the Send button on my Outlook Express program until I actually received it on my Hotmail E-mail account.  The time will vary greatly, depending on how busy your mail server is, and how busy Hotmail's server is...so don't panic if your e-mail doesn't arrive for a few minutes...ok?  Here's what it looks like...

Look at the second message, the one with Coach in blue...and the red arrow pointing to it...that means that I haven't opened it yet.  Note the size is larger than the original...3k...still not very big.  Next, I'll open the message so we can see the picture attachment...but first, let's go on to the next page.
