Poems From Bard to Verse

AN INAUSPICIOUS BEGINNING

by Mel Wade

The prospect of four days  of grandparent service
With a ten month old grandson made us just a bit  nervous.

It began,  at 5:30, just before dawn--
By 5:32 the parents were gone.

The grandson,  aroused, sensed that things weren't quite right
As his parents rushed out  in time for  their flight.

While grandpa was  soothing   at 5:34,
Grandma let   "Dusty"  go  out the back door

As  canine caught critter,  we instantly knew
the black and white beauty  well known for its phew.

Pepe le Phew..........

After Dusty slinked in she proceeded to  race
On a circular track  with Gran giving chase

With  Gran in pursuit wielding  "Skunk Off" and towels
And Dusty  belatedly   moving  her bowels.

Perhaps in their haste the words "Stay" and "Sit"
Were interpreted loosely in the frenzy of it.

A
circus like atmosphere  surrounding   the race
Soon brought a smile to  a happy child's face.

(Perhaps the word atmosphere is not satisfactory
For the fumes overwhelmed  any sense olifactory. )

The effluvium reached the furthest of rooms--
We may never lose the effect of the fumes.

Soon grandpa  stopped giving his grandson a hug
And was pressed into cleaning the living room rug.

As he  moved to the kitchen to clean up the  flooring--
The youngster  began   his high speed exploring.

Now 5:55,   we would go with the flow!
(We only had 96 hours to go.)

and only 96 hours to go................

With Christmas arriving in just a few weeks
Join us in cheer  though our happy home reeks!
