Poems From Bard to Verse
by

PUPPY
POEM
by Sunny D. Wade
I have been to busy to write so
my new puppy,
Sunny Delight Wade wrote a poem.
You made me so glad when you
answered the ad
For a Sheltie just twenty weeks old.
I was still as a mouse when you came to my house
To see the last pup to be sold.
I slept in your arms , (just one of my charms)
Rolled over for belly rubs too.
I seemed like a "steal" as I helped seal the deal
And fastened the "hook" into you.
My first name was "Honey", though you named me
'Sunny'
' Til we traveled a little too far
This sweet little pet, had a stomach upset
Now "Barfy's" my name in the car.
I have a "white collar" so you paid top dollar
But I'm really a "Carpenter " pup.
(I do odd jobs for you around the house too)
As you gingerly tidy it up.
Now I'm pretty well trained, though the carpet is stained
And you're constantly changing my name.
Whether I like it or not, you keep calling me "Spot".
Do you think it will add to my fame?
You borrowed a crate for me that was great
''Til I chewed off the paint on its floor
You purchased another and I thought, Oh brother
When will I get to chew more?
You considered it rude when the carpet I chewed
And everything under my paws
Including a ball, and some sox in the hall
And now you are calling me "Jaws".
At first I was coy, and showed little joy
As I froze with " all fours " on the floor
You would think I had married, for I had to be carried
'Cross the threshold each time through the door.
This lasted a week, as I soon learned to sneak
Out the door to a place called "the park ".
You seemed a bit tense as I squeezed through the fence,
And I suddenly learned how to bark.
You chased me for hours through neighborhood flowers
And when I was pooped it was over.
You wished I were tame, found me a new name-
Something that sounded like "Rover".
With all these good tricks, (and I kiss without licks)
I certainly give you the right
To give me at last when my puppy hood's past
My real name of Sunny Delight!
